Tuesday the 13th
Kids Gallery at Phoenix Art Museum

After a yearlong hiatus, the Phoenix Art Museum has brought back its children's gallery, where kids can see, touch and play with art.

The redesigned gallery, PhxArtKids, is now on the second floor, in what used to be the Orme Lewis Gallery, and is filled with activities that provide learning experiences for children. Examples include:

• A painting divided into grids, which encourages children to draw the painting in sections, an activity that teaches children to "slow down the eye" and appreciate detail. OAS_AD('ArticleFlex_1')

• A touchable painting designed especially for the gallery by Arizona artist Jim Waid. The painting encourages touching, and explains the use of textures in art.

• The "shoe clue" game, where children match footprints to footwear, using pieces from the Fashion Design Gallery.

Each activity includes an activity card, explaining activities children can do in the rest of the museum, and an activity to do at home.

What you won't see at the children's museum are the traditional art-making tools, such as glue and scissors, in an effort to prevent accidents elsewhere in the museum.

The former children's gallery was closed in 2005 to make way for an expansion of the Museum Store, part of the $41.2 million construction project scheduled for completion in November that also includes a new four-level gallery wing, new lobby and plaza and an outdoor sculpture garden.

The museum is at 1625 N. Central Ave., or McDowell Road and Central Avenue.

The Wedding Singer: National Tour

ASU Gammage

What we do for love! It’s 1985 and rock-star wannabe Robbie Hart is New Jersey’s favorite wedding singer. He’s the life of the party – until his own fiancée leaves him at the altar. Shot through the heart, Robbie makes every wedding as disastrous as his own. Enter Julia, a winsome waitress who wins his affection. Only trouble is, Julia is about to be married to a Wall Street shark and unless Robbie can pull off the performance of the decade, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever. With a brand new score that pays homage to the pop songs of the 1980s, THE WEDDING SINGER, takes us back to a time when hair was big, greed was good, collars were up and a wedding singer just might be the coolest guy in the room.

(GLENDALE, AZ --- Feb., 23, 2008)  Kenny Chesney will headline an all-day concert with more than 50,000 of his closets friends in Arizona at University of Phoenix Stadium on Saturday, May 31, as part of his Poets and Pirates tour. The concert, which will be the region’s biggest summer party, also features Keith Urban, LeAnn Rimes, Gary Allen, and Sammy Hagar.

Tickets to Chesney’s biggest summer block party will go on sale on Saturday, February 23 at 10 a.m. at the stadium ticket office, all TicketMaster locations, charge-by-phone at (480) 784-4444, or online at Ticketmaster.com.

Chesney is the current and winner of three consecutive Academy of Coutnry Music and Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year awards. His 2007 tour was the second highest grossing tour of the year, drawing over 1-million fans.

Chesney’s stadium shows have become legendary.

“It’s amazing to me how much intimacy you can have in a place that big,” Chesney marvels. “But there’s something in those big shows you can’t get anywhere else: a whole other kind of energy. You feel those fans all the way to the top, and there’s nothing like it. And they come to have a big day with us; you can hear it when they sing ‘Back Where I Come From’ or ‘Anything But Mine.’ It’s a blast, and I can’t wait.

“We’re changing it up to keep it interesting,” added Chesney who last year conquered the NFL Stadiums in Boston, Cleveland, Detroit, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Seattle. “Anyone who’s been to one of these shows knows… the folks sharing the stage with us put out a lot of fire power! We have a big stage, and everybody does their very biggest show. It’s pretty exciting to see everybody bringing their biggest game… but then, isn’t that the whole point of getting into a stadium in the first place?”
